Peter came to the United States as a young boy. He
first followed the sea, and sailed on many of the ships plying into New Orleans from
foreign ports in the early 1850's. In 1853, he settled down in New Orleans, going to
work as a screwman on the river front. He married
his first wife Margaret OBrien, a native of Ireland, about 1852 and had a daughter
Mary Ann in 1853. Margaret died in a fire, according to family legend, somewhere
between 1853 - 1854.
In 1858, Peter married Mary Hanlon. Mary and Peter had eight children. He built the
family home in New Orleans at 2728 Burgundy St. Peter
continued to work in various capacities along the river front until a few years before his
death in 1909. At his death, he was one the oldest screwman in New Orleans and had
been an exempt member of the Screwmen's Association since 1857. The
pallbearers at Peters funeral were six of his grandsons. William

m. Catherine C. Doyle (Catherine couldn't read or write). They lived next door to Reuben Smith and his wife Elizabeth (believed to be sister of Mary Hanlon). William Hanlon and Elizabeth may be the names of Mary Hanlons parents. There may have been another child, Catherine Hanlon, b.1835

Stephen was born 1852 in Monroe, Alabama. His father was Francis Marion Andress and mother was Sarah Ann Davis Andress m. 18 Sep 1845. He had one sister (b. 14 Sep 1848) Dee E. Andress, who married Harry M. Wright. Stephen was baptized 11 June 1881 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church on Burgundy St. His sponsor was Lizzie Hanlon, niece of Mary Hanlon. d. 31 Jan. 1918 and is buried in Metairie Cemetery.

WILLIAM ALOYSIUS FITZPATRICK1

William was a good ball player and was a policeman as were all his brothers. It was said he was a very stately man. The 1920 census shows he lived at 821 Louisa St. and he was an Agent for Rope Co. His sister-in-law Mary Sullivan lived with the family. William's home at 821 Louisa St. is now a registered landmark.

William's obituary read (sorry, we don't have a good enough copy to scan): William was a member of the New Orleans Council of the Knights of Columbus Council 714. He died in Los Angeles, Calif. and his remains were flown to New Orleans April 20, 1930. There was a requiem mass at St. Vincent de Paul church and burial in St. Patrick cemetery #1. At the time of his death the surviving siblings were Mary Ann Fitzpatrick Andress, Joseph, and Edward.

William was born at home, at the corner of Poet and Rampart Sts., N.O., LA. William and Catherine met at Mardi Gras in New Orleans in 1916 while she was visiting family. They resided in Dayton, OH, from 1917 through until William's death in 1946. Upon learning he had terminal cancer, William returned, for several months, to his beloved New Orleans to be with his family. William began his career in the exporting business, working throughout Central and South America. He managed the Gibbons hotel of Dayton Ohio from 1931 to 1937. William was associated with the Dayton insurance service from 1937 to 1945 (when he retired). He was the Secretary of Laundrymen's Association in Dayton. Catherine Gibbons was an accomplished horsewoman/owner and showed her horse "Highland King." Catherine traveled extensively with William.

William was active in civic affairs, Power Squadron, and eventually retired to Florida in 1986. He loved boating, golf, sports and travel. William received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton and Elizabeth had one year of college.

Mackie is the Sr. V.P. of Heinrich Ceramic Decal, Inc., a company begun in 1980 by Mackie and her husband Bud. She has been a pre-school teacher and is a commercial artist. mackie was first married to Burtis Lynn Espy and has two children by that marriage. She enjoys reading, gardening, needlework, quilting, genealogy, boating and traveling. she is active as a hospice volunteer. She and Bud are semi-retired and spend quality time on their trawler "Great Idea" cruising the Florida waters.

The facility has grown to be the largest in the U.S. with a reputation for quality and service. His hobbies are sailing, ice boating, motorcycles, metal and woodworking and weather.

Gertrude taught school at McDonough Girls High School on Esplanade Ave. in N.O. Gertrude, Alma and John moved into the ancestral home at 821 Louisa St. (originally owned by William Aloysius I, 1st son of Patriarch Peter), after Walter R., Sr. purchased it. After Alma and John died, Gertrude bought another home, on the same block, and lived there until her death.
